BRIDGING THE GAP
SSE Australia has brought Partnering for Scale & Impact (PSI) together to provide resources too often unavailable to those in start-up and scale-up mode in the social enterprise sector.
PSI is filling a structural gap crucial to fill if a healthy pipeline of viable Australian social enterprises is to exist to tackle our entrenched social problems in new ways. That gap is one that that many early stage social enterprises can’t find a bridge across and they fail to flourish as a result.
SSE believes the social capital market for more advanced social enterprises is in excess supply. This is due, in part at least, to a social enterprise development pipeline that fails to deliver enough viable, financially robust and, therefore, “investment ready” enterprises to the developing social impact finance markets, or to philanthropic foundations that typically only support more stable and proven businesses than what your average start up social venture is.
PSI is a structure and process through which finance and other resources can more easily flow to support fledgling but promising social enterprises so that they may grow into robust, self-sustaining, impactful and profitable entities. It does this by wrapping advisors, expert technical support, knowledge, networks and money around them.
By building their capacity and by virtue of being a PSI Venture, the structural gap in the market will close and allow them to be part of the pipeline of social enterprises able to access the capital that only flows to scaled, sustainable, de-risked, and more identifiably investible, ventures. PSI is about the social enterprise sector’s development one venture at a time.
